How to calculate meter to sqmeter?

Calculate the light-gathering power of the 2.4 meter Hubble Space Telescope is compared to the human eye?

  • I am currently in an Astronomy 101 class and i am stuck on a question. The question is... Calculate how much greater the light-gathering power of the 2.4 meter Hubble Space Telescope is than the human eye with a diameter of 6 millimeters. I'm not really sure how to even begin to solve that question, thanks in advance for any help!

  • Answer:

Well first off you probably want to convert those numbers, so 6 millimeters equals .0006 meters OR 2.4 meters equals 2,400 millimeters. I guess you could compare the two in a ratio aspect by dividing the numbers? 1:400. So the Hubble Space Telescope would gather approximately 400 times more light then the human eye, I suppose.
