The body of the e-mail address that accompanies your resume should contain a cover letter. The cover letter should be written using the standard business letter format so that your application looks professional. Never send the resume without the cover letter, that would be a big mistake, first of all your application will not be taken as serious. Imagine the HR of a company receiving a blank e-mail most likely your resume will not be read. The cover letter should also focus on the roles and duties of the job that you are applying for, when writing the cover letter, don't just repeat what is on your resume, instead focus on convincing the Hiring Manager that you are the best match for that specific job, try to show how your skills and experience best match to the roles and responsibilities of the job advertised. Focus the cover letter to be more about the employer and how you can help them, the most important thing to remember is that your cover letter should address the specific needs of your potential employer.

Your name, address, phone, email. Position you are applying for (this should also be in the subject line) A few bullet points that will make them want to open up your resume. half a page. A admin is sorting through this email. They are not engineers. So use full words. Profession Engineer (PE), Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). Avoid technical slang and too much abbreviation. For a Mechanical engineer a RTU means roof top unit. For an Electrical engineer RTU means Remote Terminal Unit. Totally different.
