Essential camping checklist?

Going tent camping What should we do at night and camping checklist?

  • Im going tent camping and there is plently to do during the day but what should we do at night besides sitting around the fire? Also if you could make me a camping checklist i would apreciate it! Thanks!

  • Answer:

Will you be "family" camping or primitive camping with friends? My group usually brings a few different beverages and a variety of food. At night we sit around the bomb fire and share stories, laugh, and play drinking games. During the day we go canoeing on the river for about 4-5 hrs and that typically exhaustes us to just relax at night. If your going primitive camping its important to bring the essintals b/c you DEF need them. Depending on the type of camping you'll be doing will depend on what you'll need. Here just a few items I can think of: Tent Tarp Stakes (if not included w/ tent) Flashlight/ Lantern- wick- kerosine Stakes Hammer Camping knife Water- LOTS Food Portable Grill or Stove Utinesils/Plates Trash bags/ Toilet Paper (if no bathrooms are provided) Water Sealant for tent Cooler Radio Matches/Lighter Wood (usually can be bought from the camp site)

There are plenty of sites, like at REI.com that have checklists for camping. Google them and print one out. It would be a better education for you to take some time to THINK about what you will be doing and what you will need and then assemble the appropriate kit for the situation. As to fireside entertainment, just sitting and watching the fire and talking is usually enough for most people especially after an active day outdoors. In the summer it gets dark late anyway and the sun makes it too bright and hot to sleep in come monring so you're probably going to want to turn in and sleep earlier than you usually do at home. Depending on where you are going, you can't always count on a fire anyway. Some regions are under drought restrictions and some states won't allow you to move or gather firewood due to parasitic insect infestations. Be sure you know what is allowed where you are headed before you plan on a fire. The idea that we have to constantly be "entertained" at all times is kind of a sorry reflection on our humanity. Sitting around a fire quietly, talking or maybe singing with good friends is a very satisfying way to end a day. If you really feel like you have to have something to "do" every night besides that, perhaps you should stay home and watch TV.

Bring a guitar, violin, etc. Checklist: water, food, bear bag, tent, ground cover, flashlight, lantern, toilet paper, hand shovel, teeth-brushing supplies, sleeping bag, knife, fire-starting materials, rope, survival kit, pots for cooking food in. Thats most of them. Just think of general items you would need on a camping trip.

even if the trip is for one night i still recommend these items since you never know what will happen. not all are necessary for the type of camping you may be doing but should, god forbid, something happen you will have them as an eagle scout i did a lot of camping in various types of weather here is what you need: Hiking boots ( not necessary for a one day or weekend trip but they are here for later reference for longer trips) tent backpack (you will be able to fit almost everything in one as opposed to suitcases; needs to be at least 4800 cubic inches) a backpacking stove eating utensils (such as metal pots and pans and cutlery this will make for easy cleanup) as much food as necessary for the trip clothing for the season a Global Positioning System (get one in the range of about 300 to 400. they are good and some can float on water) lots of water a means of communication ( such as a cell phone) a map and compass (if you re not careful the batteries in the gps will run out) toiletries ( such as a toothbrush) a shovel to dig your latrine a flashlight a watch Extra Batteries rain gear for everyone in your group highly reflective blanket fire starters wood (if you're going to a campsite; If not you can just collect some in the woods) matches or another way of starting a fire let someone know where you re going and when you re expecting to be back so they know when to send for help if necessary AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST TAKE ANOTHER RESPONSIBLE ADULT. YOU MUST HAVE A BUDDY BECAUSE YOU NEED TO HAVE SOMEONE TO TAKE CARE OF YOU AND/OR YOUR INJURIES !!!! YOU'RE CHILDREN WILL NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO

If you hike twenty miles during the day, then you will not have any problem thinking about what you should do at night. You will go to bed and sleep. Checklists are developed by Backpacker Magazine that will give you good ideas for gear.
