Do these acting agencies look legit, and which one looks better?

  • Hey! i submitetd myself to a few agencies, and so far i have had two accept me. http://thebrockagency.com/home.asp and http://www.talentone.net/ both seem good to me! originally i wouldve probably gone with the brock agency, but now im having second thoughts because i heard that a boy from talentone got a part as a tribute in the hunger games, and im dyingg to be in catching fire. do these agencies look legit, and which should i go to? also, bonus points if anyone knows how to become a SAG-AFTRA actor? (:

  • Answer:

Not sure how legit the talent agencies you mentioned are (the websites aren't all that professional looking), but here's a site that give you an idea of what you should look for in a talent agency - http://www.sag.org/content/getting-started-actor-faq. To join SAG/AFTRA, you have to meet certain requirements before applying for membership. The following info is from the SAG website: "Performers may join SAG upon proof of employment. Employment must be in a principal or speaking role in a SAG film, videotape, television program or commercial. Proof of such employment may be in the form of a signed contract, or original pay stubs. Background Actors may join SAG upon proof of employment as a SAG–covered background player at full SAG rates and conditions for a MINIMUM of three work days subsequent to March 25, 1990. Employment must be by a company signed to a SAG Agreement under which the Producer is required to cover background actors. Proof of employment must be in the form of original paystubs or a payroll printout faxed from the payroll house." Hope that helps.

It doesn't matter how they look on the website. If they ask for money, it's a scam. Agencies can't ask their clients for money. They get a commission of whatever money you get from the jobs thu get you. And of course they accepted you they are scams. My advice, don't go with either

Brock if they will have you. You become SAG/AFTRA by being in a SAG/AFTRA film or tv show in a speaking role, then you have to pay the dues and initiation fee, about $2500,
