How long do cold sores last and how can I make it go away without medicine?

    SugarPlum, cols sores last anywhere from one day to 3 days, depending on how you treat them. Things to try without medicine are; toothpaste around the sore. Eat alkaline based foods such as almonds, apples, bananas and carrots. Do some exercise to help oxygenate your blood stream.

I have successfully used Vital 2000 many times- not available now that I know of, but basically an oil made of eucalyptus, almond etc. Much the same as RubA535 / TigerBalmetc. S I would, strange as it seems, try some linament, whichever is available! It seems to work by bringing lots of blood supply to the area. PS it is a herpes virus, like it or not. Though only your doctor's test can say which type- venereal disease or garden variety herpes simplex.

Cold sores are herpes virus 1 or 2. (Sorry had to tell others that anyway) You can put salt on it or lemon juice. It will clear up a lot faster but it does hurt. That's the only thing I've found that works so far.

You can put petroleum jelly or Carmex on it. Both will dry it out and help it heal slightly faster if you use them early on.
