Do k-pop/J-pop stars have to be pretty?

  • I really love both K-pop/J-pop songs, and I would love to be a singer when I am older. I would prefer to sing K-pop/J-pop, yet I've heard that most companies pick people based on looks, is that true? If so, what would be classed as pretty? what kind of features? And would I still have a chance even if I wasn't pretty?

    They care about the looks so some artists got plastic surgery but that doesn't mean they don't look out on your talent. No they don't have to be pretty or handsome, how can you like a group when they're only have the looks and not the voice or dancing skills, right? Maybe, but I don't think there are many companies like that. Talent is more important than the physical appearance, the looks can go away but you can always improve on your talent.

Hello! Yes, some entertainments definitely do look for looks, for instance SM entertainment. I'm sure all companies base on looks a little bit, even if it isn't alot. What would be classed as pretty? A stereotypical pretty asian girl. Flawless skin, eyesmile, double eyelids, pale skin, great body etc; etc;. Your chances would go down if you weren't, but you would still have a chance.

They want you to be good looking so that you are marketable. Either good looks or amazing talent.
