How Long Would It Take To Get A First Time Irish Passport?

  • Okay so I'm 17 and Irish and I want to get a passport. Problem is I need it for the 24th of May so yeah bit of a tight squeeze.... It's not for holidays or anything.... It's for I.D. I'm a Irish citizen and all that so theres no problems there but I'm wondering how long it'll take for me to get a passport. I unfortunately have no other form of I.D. and yeah this night is pretty darn important.... I haven't the forms submitted as of yet but it's more than less good to go. So how long will it take before I get the physical passport?? I know it says 15 days on the site but does anyone have experience of how long it took them?? Thanks in advance, any tips or advice on how to get one faster is appreciated...and yes I know I should have sorted this out weeks ago... >__<

    Go to your local Post Office & apply using Passport Express. You must fill the form in very carefully as any mistake will mean it is returned to you. Do not mark outside the boxes especially where you sign it. You need all the releveant documents to hand (birth cert, 2 counter signed passport sized photos etc). If you do it tomorrow you should have it back by the 24th May I would imagine.

Passport Express isnt an emergency service, it just guarantees to have your passport to you within 10 working days provided you have all the correct documentation. You do realise that if you're still under 18 on May 24th, you shouldnt be allowed in a licensed premises after 9pm?

Northern Ireland or ROI? I can give you advice if its Northern Ireland but sadly I dont know about passport proceedings in ROI! Well with Northern Ireland you can speed up the process by actually going to the head office where they process the passports and get it on the day (or cut it down to a week or so), which is pretty good if youre desperate. So it might be a bit of a train ride or drive for you if you need it pronto.
