What copyright infringement reason should I give on YouTube to get a video removed?
-
Here's my situation... I filmed and acted in a series of short films a few years ago and put about 5 of them on YouTube. I took them down a few months later because I didn't want them to be seen by anyone anymore. Now I've just discovered that someone must have downloaded them and has uploaded them again on their own channel. I want to report them for copyright infringement but not sure what option to put. I could put 'my YouTube video was re-uploaded by another user' but I don't have the URL for the originals because I removed them (I have some old url's but they dont link to the videos anymore) I could put that someone is using 'my live performance' without permission...but it's obvious that I'm acting in front of the camera, it's not like candid footage. Or I could put someone is 'using my video, not from Youtube' which is not strictly true as they did used to be on YouTube. Which is most likely to get it removed, and what will happen after I submit it? Thanks

Answer:
I'm pretty sure you can put any of those and it should work out. I'm sure there's a place for you to put comments in the complaint to explain. If not, then just pick one of those options and then record the information and send an email to Youtube and just say "I recently submitted a copyright complaint, confirmation # 584949 (or whatever..or just note the time and the video that you have an issue with if nothing like that is recorded during the initial complaint you file), and I just wanted to flesh out some of the details since none of the options seemed to exactly fit, but I do want this video removed" Then just explain yourself as you did here. You should hear back from Youtube, who may ask for additional info.

You simply tell them that work produced by you, acted in by you, is being used without express written permission. As the original creator, you have a poor man's copyright on such material.
Smells like New Screen Names
tell them you own the videos, recorded and acted in them and you want them taken down because they are being used without your permission

Just ask them to take them down. You don't need an excuse- it's your property. Studied property law as part of my Business Degree.
