How to install linksys router without a cd, i can connect to the router but there's no internet.?
-
Ok so I'm not really good with computers but here's the situtation, a few years ago someone set up my wifi and he put up a password, I don't remember the password. So now I'd like to set up my wifi again because about a year ago we stopped using wifi coz my brother pulled out the router. My router is a linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz Model WRT54G and I've aalready tried hooking up the cable to the router and detecting the wifi signal with my notebook, it says im connected to the router but when i open up my googlechrome i cant connect to the net. From what I understand, I can connect to the router itself but my router isn't exactly connected to the internet. So, basically I'd like to ask for some help....if I can somehow just erase that stuff from years ago with the password thing, I'd like to start from scratch....put in a new password....as if I were opening the box for the first time you know. problem is, I can't use the CD that comes with the router since I'm using a notebook that doesn't have a CD-ROM. So please, can anyone help me out. I'd really appreciate it if you guys can give me a step-by-step procedure to follow without using too much tech terminologies....I really don't get a lot about this stuff. Just plain and simple instructions with a bit of added info in case I don't quite get it. Again, I can't remember my old password so is there a way to start from scratch and put up a new password. I hope you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance

Answer:
sorry man, it could be one of many possible issues. Contact your internet service provider. Check the router and see if the light for wifi is on. I think your network isn't set up properly. Call them, seriously

Valerie, trhere is a black or red button on the back that you need to hold down for about 30 seconds. the amount of time it would take me to type up a tutorial will be much longer than it would take for you to call Linksys and have them walk you through it. (800) 546-5797 (Option 3)

There will be a reset button on the back, press and hold it till the lights on the front start to flash, this will wipe the router and reset it to factory defaults. To log in and change the settings plug your computer into the router via ethernet cable and go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser. It will ask for a username and password this router should be a blank username and the password: "admin" or the username and password may be: "admin" You can google it to double check. From there you can go to wireless settings and setup your network, choosing a SSID and password. And that should be all you really need, you can play around with other settings but be careful or you will have to reset it again.
