How To Play Guitar?

Which guitar should I use to learn how to play the guitar?

  • So I really like the sound of the acoustic guitar, but I hear the electric guitar is a lot easier to learn. BUT! I don't want to play the electric guitar, Id rather play the acoustic. So should I just buy an acoustic guitar and get lessons. And can you tell me which acoustic guitar I should buy for my FIRST GUITAR to begin learning with.

  • Answer:

Neither is easier to learn to play. The strings are tuned the same, the notes are the same, the chords are the same, the scales, and music theory are the same. In terms of learning to play, they're the same. If you like the sound of acoustic guitar, learn to play on an acoustic guitar and ignore what the people who know nothing about guitar say. Just be sure you buy a decent guitar (whether it's acoustic or electric). A cheap acoustic guitar with heavy strings and high action will definitely be a bear to try to play. But a cheap electric guitar with bad setup will be equally frustrating. Try out a Yamaha FG700S (around $200). I've found those to be very nice sounding and easy to play acoustic beginner guitars. Definitely worth spending a bit more than those $100 plywood guitars and probably just as easy to learn on as if you spent that same $200 trying to get an electric guitar and amplifier. For $200 you'd have a pretty nasty electric guitar and cheap amplifier with a 6" speaker. EDIT: get your guitar with light gauge strings too. They're easier to press down and make it easier on your fingers when you're just learning and getting the fingers toughened up. This is the point where most people say electric guitar is easier, because electric guitar strings are lighter than acoustic strings (they don't need to be as heavy to get the tone because the pickups and amp provide a lot of the tone). I will admit most electric guitars are easier on the fingers, but a nicely set up acoustic guitar will be just fine. I play both and, while my electric is fast and smooth, I have not trouble playing barre chords and cleanly fretting notes on acoustic either. Learn on whichever you prefer to play.

well probably some people said it is easier to play electric guitar is because the strings are lighter and so it is tend to be easier to make the cords sound. but in fact playing electric guitar is equally hard and as playing acoustic. to play electric guitar decently is hard. and in playing electric guitar you also need to learn how to set up the amp, pedal accessories etc... which make the guitar playing become more complicated. so buy cheap but good acoustic guitar and make sure to keep the guitar in tune. ask your the person who give you guitar lesson to tune the guitar regularly. buy yamaha or if you have extra budget, choose fender or takamine. in Australia, fender but made in china is available so you can get them with around 300 - 400 dollar.

Just buy any cheap acoustic guitar that you like and wich sounds good to begin with then as you improve if you still want to play buy a good guitar (fender, gibson, ibanez ...) and rock.I personally started with a very old spanish guitar and i'm now playing 3different guitars including an acoustic fender. hope this helped
