Advice about BSOD and buying a new hard drive?
-
So after fiddling with my computer for a few days I am guessing that my Hard Drive is going bad, although I would like some secondary advice on the matter to make sure I don't end up wasting my money. This weird thing happened to me a few times. My computer would start running slow, so I would restart it, and then the Disk Checker would start and scan my entire hard drive. After it is done and I would start using windows again all sorts of files would be corrupted, like Norton Antivrus, Microsoft Office, random PC games like Half Life 2, and even system files like ipconfig.exe or cmd.exe. I thought I had maleware at first because I re-installed windows and the same thing happened about a month later. So this weekend I decided to reformat my hard drive and re-install windows. The first time I did I got a BSOD half way through. So of course I reformatted my hard drive once more and re-installed windows. This time it was successful, although anytime I try to install anything like windows update I get a 0x000000F4 CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION BSOD error. Just for kicks I even opened up my laptop switched the ram around and took out the hard drive and put it back in. Doing that just made it worse. Now I can't even get windows to run longer than 10 min without getting a BSOD. Sometimes when it turns on it simply tells me no operating system detected, it will usually load windows after I turn it off and on again. My laptop is only a bit over a year old, (a about a month after my warranty was up with Dell, naturally) and I really shouldn't be buying new components for it, but I want my laptop back. So my question is, is if you were me would you buy a new hard drive? I really hope the hard drive is the problem, what if it is the RAM, or even something else. Any last minute advice before a blow $150 on a new internal hard drive. Thank you.
