How to do a grey avatar background?

In my yahoo answers icon my avatar's background is white even though i have one selected?

  <Sigh> You HAVE to click the "Save the changes" button GUI to save the background ALONG WITH YOUR AVATAR. You have to TELL a computer network to do something. Computers are VERY logical, but they are also VERY dumb. If you do not tell the computer to save the changes to your avatar, it will not save the changes to your avatar, so you get blank background until you tell the computer network to SAVE THE CHANGES to your avatar.
