Where can I find babysitting jobs?

• I just had a babysitting class, and I really want to start babysitting this year cause I love kids and to gain some experience. I just don't know where to find some cause my parents don't know a lot of people who have kids, and I dont have younger cousins or something. Plus my parents don't want me to babysit strangers I find on internet or whoever. I have a few neighbours, but I dont know if theyll let me babysit... I'm afraid they wont trust me because they know i'm kinda shy and not too outgoing since I was young.. but I really do like kids. And I'm kinda shy to go ask them like "Can I babysit your kids" ....

  It has been quite a long time since I babysat in the neighborhood however generally all it takes it one job to get your name around. Once one family recommends you then your name will continued to be passed around. I started one day because the neighbor had an emergency and needed to run to the hospital so I ran over there for an hour. A few months later I was babysitting on a regular basis for 5 homes all within a block of me. I can certainly understand your parents concern on babysitting for a stranger on the internet. There is a site www.care.com which pairs up babysitters and those looking for a babysitter. I have not personally ever used it however my impression is that it is similar to Angie's list where they rate you and you rate them so you have a little better idea of what you are walking into. Depending on how big your town is I am sure you can would be able to do your own detective work on each family to find out if they are safe. If you are close to your neighbors or see them out just let it slip out one day that you babysat or better yet you just finished up your class and they will remember. Ask your friends who babysit if you can cover them for one night just to get your name out there. This is all it will take.
