My chance at Michigan State University's MBA?
-
I have graduated from Wayne State University with a 3.42 overall GPA and a 3.79 Major GPA. I started off with a 2.14 GPA .. and after my first semester I started gradually increasing my GPA. from 2.14 to 2.7 to 3.06 to 3.16 to 3.3 and I graduated with a 3.42. I received mostly A's on my major courses, was one of only 10 students selected from my program to spend two weeks in Canada visiting industrial and transportation companies to complete a 70 page research paper. Was an active member of the Global Supply Chain Management Student Association. We won second place last year (my team) competing against 16 other Supply Chain management programs in the country at the GM competition ( yes we beat U of Michigan and Michigan State) we were second to Upenn. I am expecting to score between 620 and 660 on my GMAT- based on my practice exams which I scored 690-720 on. I am not thinking about applying this year - I got a decent offer with Chrysler to join their purchasing team. However, maybe sometime in the near future 2or 3 years down the road. I would like to complete my graduate education at MSU because their Supply chain management program is considered the second best in the country after Wharton (Upenn). What do you think? PS I can get several good recommendation letters from 1) the Director of the Global Supply chain management program at Wayne State 2) My adviser 3) My supervisor (hopefully) P.S their minimum requirements to get admissions to their MBA is a 3.33 GPA within the last two years of college. At least 2 years of work experience, and their average GMAT is around 640 or so.

Answer:
Take the job and work 2-4 years before applying for the MBA. MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree. Some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. But in those programs you don't get the benefit of learning from other students who have work experience. A lot of valuable learning takes place through class interaction. Also when you graduate your job offers will be about the same as a business undergraduate gets because you have no work experience, and you've been two years out of your undergraduate field so it's hard to get work in that area. Explore the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.
