Would it be alright to uninstall Homebrew Channel and update my Wii?
-
I no longer desire the Homebrew Channel on my Wii because it's becoming more trouble than it is worth whenever a new game comes out. I'm tired of having to run my store bought games through NeoGamma or USB Loader GX or add some cIOS my system is missing whenever a new game comes out because I'm still on 4.2. I know that if all I had was the Homebrew Channel, I could uninstall it and that would be the end of that, but I made a few changes while I had the Homebrew Channel: -I used software that allowed me to update the Wii Shop Channel so I could access it despite being on 4.2 -I added cIOS's that allowed me to play Kirby's Return to Dreamland (which was the last straw, personally)...and I can't remember what other game. -I have a NeoGamma wad installed, but that's easy to remove ...I can't quite remember what else, but I know I avoided anything unnecessary like adding themes to my system menu. If this isn't already a dumb question, would it be alright for me to update the system menu without worrying about my system bricking?

Answer:
The only real problem that happens when updating a Modded Wii is when it's a region changed Koren Wii. A lot of the the time people didn't know their Wii was Korean, they just got it from some discount place online and it was already region changed, so when they update, it gets bricked. As long as you got the Wii from a reputable source you'll be fine. I still run 4.1U and play retail games with Disk Channel just fine, your setup just needs a little fixing. Easiest way to update would be ModMii http://modmii.zzl.org/ It gets all the newest game IOSs right from Nintendo so the new games will run and with Priiloader you can stop the update notification from disk so you can play retail games from the Disk Channel. You could even use this to update to 4.3 but I'd stay at 4.2, the real key is to install Priiloader .7 (NOT the new .8 beta). ModMii will create a guide based on the answers you provided.

The Wii modding situation is very stable now. If you bite the bullet and do one more update you shouldn't need to update again. It's unlikely the Wii will receive another System Menu and the cIOS are bursting with features and pretty much rock solid. 1. Update your Homebrew Channel to the latest version 2. Update your Wii to System Menu 4.3 3. Re-hack the Wii using ModMii Alternatively: Those games you're loading from disk, add them to your USB HD, the option is in the USB loader - at that point they're forced to load via your USB loader IOS, not the IOS the game wants :) You are ok to update that Wii so long as you've not messed with region changing though. If your Homebrew Channel is old it will get removed and your cIOS files will get stubbed with "dead" IOS.
