What Is My Guitar Worth?

What would a 1949 Gibson solid-body guitar be worth?

  • My grandfather had a 1949 Gibson solid-body guitar, and we are wondering what that would be worth today. Is anyone an expert on that?

  • Answer:

Gibson didn't decide to make solid body guitars until later in 1950, after it took note of the sales of Fender's Telecaster, first released as the Broadcaster in fall of that year, coming on the heels if its Esquire models that came out in March. If it's a Les Paul, it can't be any older than 1952. So that you think it dated to 1949 calls into question what it really was. Having said that, not knowing what it is, no one can come up with anything other than book prices for various '50s Gibsons. That, you could research yourself.
