there are monitors with higher resolution than the 1080 x 1920 (1080P) resolution of a HDTV, however as a rule there is little difference, so if the TV has a DVI or VGA port, or your PC has a HDMI port a TV will work fine as a monitor. these days if you use your TV for any of the paid services (e.g. sky, .virgin, BT vision) which come with a separate receiver box, the TV is essentially just a monitor anyway, and in my experience a monitor is usually a LOT cheaper than a similar sized TV (i paid 120 for a 24" monitor, a 24" tv would have been at least an extra £30

Depends on the tv. With hdmi and dvi you could increase the quality depends on the price of it. So don't buy the cheapest and at minimum ensure it has a VGA port for connection. Wise idea! Http://www.listacker.com

You can yes, just copy what you want from your HDD to a USB stick and plug it into your TV
