Can a mediocre programmer find a job?

Is it easy for a programmer to find a job?

  • I'm going to be a university student soon, and I was wondering, is it easier to get a job if I get a degree in Computer Science or Computer Science & Engineering? Also what is typically the salary range? Thanks.

  • Answer:

This is a question that students will find themselves asking more and more until the baby boomers start retiring and we get our job market back to young graduates. See the charts here: http://www.onlinedegrees.org/calculator/salary/highest-paying-degrees Information technology is and will continue to be a great choice as other industries die off. The same is true of engineering. Something else to consider is return on investment for the degree you are getting. I know people who graduated with good degrees and found good jobs but were surprised at how long it would take before they paid their degree off and started to see a positive return on their education investment.
