World view explained with Ancient myth? Help?

• so, i'm writing a speech for my final about my view on the world. for the assignment, we are supposed to use at least 3 types of stories that reflect that view. well, for one of my paragraphs, i think an ancient myth (greek, norse...) would work well. to the point, my view is basically that today we rely too much on artificial means (medication, etc) to deal with pretty much everything, and that this is not really dealing with the issue...it's more like a quick fix. so basically that we should work on actual solutions. My question: what is an Ancient myth that reflects this? such as a myth where someone is too reliant on the help of gods/etc.

  I'd like to point something out. Citing medication as an 'artificial means' might not be a good idea when paired with mythology. Medication isn't exactly blind faith or over reliance on superficial means. Greek mythology actually has its own God of Medicine - Asclepius. Maybe instead of saying medicine is an artificial way of dealing with issues, you could point out how materialism, the chaotic political landscape, society's obsession with the aesthetic, and other superficial things are distracting the world from real problems like poverty/war/illiteracy. You could cite Narcissus as a metaphor for vanity, Midas for greed, Niobe and Phathon for hubris, house of Atreus for violence.
