How did you get into a a good college?

How can i get good grades in college/post-secondary?

  • My hopes when i get to college (I'm in HS) is to try and get straight A's, if not close to it. However, everywhere i look, people are always telling me that my GPA is going to drop 1.0 from HS, and that i should stop dreaming. First of all, i know that college is harder than High school. To me, that's kind of obvious. But it seems like people are assuming that i (and all other future-freshman) are going to jump into college with the same work ethic and enthusiasm that we had in HS, and not step it up even a little bit. Whenever i ask, people always just talk about how hard it is, and then don't actually offer any solutions. That being said, I am looking for tips and advice on how to make straight A's (or close) happen. I know it's not impossible, i hear about it all the time. I know that i can do it if i am prepared and know what i'll need to do before hand. I also know that there is no magic formula, and that i will have to bust my *** to make it happen. But any study tips, notetaking tips, How-to site recommendations, personal experiences, etc, would be greatly appreciated. Anything helps, thanks!

This guys a moron. I'm IN a fraternity and have a 3.93 and I'm a junior zoology major. Major in what you like, it will be much easier. Ive made A's in all my science classes. The one thing I wish I knew before college is to NOT TAKE classes like history, govt, comp 1 and 2.. Ect at a 4 yr college. Take them online and or at a community college. They can be senselessly hard at a 4yr university.

Be a Communications major. They have easy classes and you can easily maintain a 4.0 GPA. Do not go into Engineering because you will have a much lower GPA. The fact that your GPA drops isn't because of work ethic or it is. The freedom to choose what you want to do is really big once you get to college. You have the option of going to parties, staying up as late as you want and just doing whatever you want to do. With all these distractions it isn't surprising that the GPA drops. Basically the wheel of college is right. You pick to: Sleep, Good grades, social life. Getting all three is pretty much impossible unless you can go on with little sleep, like I do. I have a 2.64 GPA which is pretty good considering this is my first semester at a four-year, I go to frat parties and have an average of 4-6 hours of sleep every day, rarely excluding the weekends.
