What is a symbol or visual thing that could represent empathy?

What single thing, place, event, or symbol could represent the Middle East for a history project?

• I'm doing a project for my history class, and the task is to make a timeline for one world region of our choosing, and come up with some sort of item to go with it that would represent a piece of that world regions history, or capture the essence of it. (examples she showed us included: a gigantic paper crane for Japan, a mannequin head wearing an ornate headpiece for India, the colosseum for the Roman period of Europe... etc) I chose the MIddle East (which is Southwest Asia, and includes all of Saudi Arabia as well as Northern Africa) And I'm not sure what to do for my symbol. I"m talking about the entire history of that region, so I can pick literally anything. The first civilizations (Egypt, Mesopotamia...) on earth were there, and Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all originated there also. Any good ideas? Leave an answer.
