What is the michigan age requirement to drive a moped?

Can you ride a moped at age 14 in Michigan?

  • I'm 14 and 3 months and just bought a moped. The problem is, I don't know if I can ride it. I know you have to be 15 to get a moped license but could you ride it /w a learner's permit level one license at 14 and 8 months? If not, could I at least ride it around the neighborhood or would I get into trouble?

  • Answer:

http://www.moped2.org/laws/Michigan.htm A "learner's permit" is not a "driver's license". You can ride a moped on any driver's license, or on a special moped license. A "moped" has 2 bhp or less. There are *very* vehicles with 2 bhp or less. A Tomos Moped has *more* than 2 bhp and thus is not a legal moped. The "moped" you got is probably legally a small "motorcycle", a "motor-driven cycle", and you will legally need a motorcycle endorsement on your car license. Michigan has a pitiful site, go to an "SOS" office and talk to the idiots there. It will take at least four trips to get a straight answer.
