How to scan onto my computer?
-
I want to scan a photo onto my computer without having to take a photo of it and then upload it because the quality is lost that way. I used to be able to do it because there was a thing you clicked on the computer which would ask me if it wanted me to scan onto the computer. But i had to have my computer rebooted (so it lost all of its data and stuff) and since then, I have lost the ability to scan a photo straight to the computer.. Any help? :s

Answer:
If you don't know where the CD is, just go to the scanner manufacturer's website, you can most likely download the right software from their "support" area using the model number unless it's really old. If it's really old(over five years), I hope it's an HP, they archive stuff pretty much forever. You can usually find the model number A) on the box if you still have it, or B) on the back or bottom of your scanner.

Hello, First thing to do is read and follow the "Quick Start" instructions that came with your printer. I have installed three different scanners and they all came with instructions and a CD with the scanner drivers and some software. The software included a photo editor and an OCR application. The OCR app (optical character recognition) allows a typewritten document to be scanned then conversion to a text file that you can edit and save using a word processor. In the quick start instructions you always have to install the software before plugging in and turning on the all-in-one device. If this procedure is not followed and you plug in your printer/scanner before the drivers are installed from the cd then Windows will detect the new hardware and install generic drivers then tell you" your new device is ready to use ". Probably the printer will work and maybe the scanner will scan but you will not have all the options and convenience you paid for. You really need the drivers included in the CD for everything to work properly because Windows' drivers will be incomplete. If you have already plugged your printer/scanner in, turned it on and have Windows' generic drivers the easiest way to make it right is to uninstall your printer/scanner. Unplug everything then reboot your computer. After rebooting install your printer/scanner per the "Quick Install" instructions. This will insure the correct drivers are ready for Windows to find and install when it detects the new device and the "Found New Hardware" message appears. The scanning applications' "Help" file will have all the information for using that particular program. Each application is a little different and unique. Hope this helps.
