How to use GTK signals?

What is the use of yellow/orange light in traffic signals?

  • What I have observed here in India is the middle yellow/orange light doesn't serve any purpose. When the signal is red all vehicles stop and then it switches to green and they move. But I have hardly seen any functionality of the yellow/orange light at least in India because the signal changes from red to green but never come to yellow. So don't you think they should discard this middle light? What I know of traffic signal is red is for stop, yellow for get ready, and green for go. But because these days digital clocks are fitted at many signals and drivers can always get ready to go as soon as they see that only 10 or 5 seconds are left. What do you think? Is it time for modification of traffic signals because when they were made digital clocks were not around? And do you know of any place anywhere in the world where they have modified traffic signals to red and green only with digital clock showing the remaining seconds?

The yellow means slow down, it is about to turn red. Yellow is to give drivers a chance to slow down before running a red light. I dont know about the issue in India, but here that is what it's for.
