How do I become an English tutor?

Please read, could I become a part time English tutor?? UK?

  • I'm eighteen and I have a gcse in English language and literature at grade A, and I am finishing my A level English literature and i am hoping to get an A..when I start university (doing a non English course) in September hopefully I would really like to teach English privately! I could only teach 11+ and gcse obviously. Yes or no? Is it realistic and a good idea? Thank you!! If yea, please give me tips on how to become one (like advertisement and stuff)

  • Answer:

Frankly, I don't think you've demonstrated a high enough level of English in your question to consider tutoring others. I congratulate you on your excellent grades, but in the above paragraph, you have failed to (or haven't bothered to) capitalise "GCSE", punctuate correctly, or select vocabulary with prudence and imagination. I’m not saying this to be cruel but to give you a realistic idea of how challenging it could be for you to secure this type of work. If you are going to tutor English, you should be writing at a very high standard. Given your excellent grades, I daresay you’re capable of demonstrating this high standard; however, I can only judge your ability based on what you’ve shown us. In any case, I wish you the best.
