Which football position should i play?

  • Hey, I'm 15 years old, live in germany, am very interested in football and would like to join a football team around here. Now I'm around 5'11 tall (180 cm) and weigh around 145 lbs (66 kg), I'm not very fast so I would not like to be a receiver or cornerback but although I do not weigh that much I am pretty strong and can take and deal great hits. So I think best for me would be to play as a def/offensive guard, safety or runningback. What do you think, which position should I play on?

    Once you find a team then get with the coach and see what positions will be available.. He will make all the decisions and would be the one most knowledgeable about the needs of the team... Good luck....

Can you catch? If you can hit but you are worried about speed you may choose to be an interior or middle linebacker. These players usually attack the run and will occasionally blitz on passing plays. Speed will become more important at safety if you play in a pass first league. Linemen such as guards are generally going to be heavier. In the NFL a good middle linebacker in the higher 270s now. In high school, depending on the size of the kids in the area, you might still be undersized. But if you are not fast then you will need to pick up some muscle and play more of a power position anyway.

Why not Fullback, Fullbacks do not have to be fast and normally block but are used alot in short yardage/goal line situation and screen passes...so you will still get to actually handle the ball and dont have to be the fastest player on the field

Based on your height and weight, as well as your strength, I believe that the best fit for you is at safety. Considering your age, your height gives you the potential to become an elite safety in football.
