Why does my abs hurt when i cough?

its been going on for days like when i give my stomach the slightest touch it hurts like hell when i go to flex my abs its hurts like hell as if they want to lock..even when i cough they hurt as if im being punched ANY HELP...

Take either Advil or Aleve, whichever works best for you. A heating pad on your abdomen will increase the blood flow and help the pain to stop faster. If you don't want to cough, get some Halls to suck on. The honey-lemon flavor has the most menthol and that helps a lot better for some people, myself included. Anything that has you swallowing will help some, so if you suck on hard candy it will mostly prevent you from coughing. I'd still recommend Halls though. Whether from coughing or exercise, an overuse of the diaphragm will cause the abdomen to hurt. Just like any other muscle, overuse will result in a lactic acid buildup that will cause pain until your body can reabsorb all of that mess. Take it easy and you'll be fine in a few days. If this is from exercise, I can tell you how to avoid doing that again. I did it during my freshman year in college, so I know just how much that can hurt. The way to get a toned stomach is to start with a very small number of crunches and/or sit ups. At first, no more than ten repetitions twice a day (morning and evening). Once your muscles start to get used to the exercise, you can start increasing how many you do. Once you hit a number that you like (depending on how toned you want your stomach), then you don't have to exercise quite as often. Maintaining abs only needs two or three sessions a week, depending on your diet and metabolism.
