Which are 6x9 car speakers making the most bass?

Car Audio Speakers - 6.5" 6x9 Subs, Crossovers?

  • Hey, I have the following speaker setup : Fusion CP-AW2120 Dual subwoofers with built in amplifier 2x Soundstream SF-693t 6x9s 3-way in the rear deck of my car (100rms per) JVC KD-326 Headunit 2x 6.5" Soundstream SF-652T 2-Way each in front doors (60rms per) 2x Basic fusion tweeters in rear of car The 6x9s, tweeters & front 6.5" speakers are all running on car battery and are not externally amplified, they also have no crossovers. The 6x9's are currently hovering about 2-3 inches above the rear deck as I haven't yet cut into it as I will be changing cars soon. I'm not really happy with the sound i'm getting from the setup (not the subs) at the moment although i've been told the 6x9's I have are actually really good. To make the most out of my sound system assuming the 6x9s are cut to fit perfectly in the rear deck would I need to amplify both 6x9s, front speakers and tweeters and would they all need crossovers also? If so would it be best to get a amplifier powering the 6x9s (they are 100rms each) for example at 100rms or would I need to underpower them to around 75rms? Would I need everything my setup is made of ran on crossover? And when the setup is complete should I be turning bass off the 6.5" speakers and 6.9" and leave bass to the subs only or should they all have bass turned on? Thanks!

  • Answer:

A mid-size 4 channel amp along with correctly installing the 6x9's would make a world of difference. Almost all amps currently sold will have adequate crossover capabilities for the speakers. A 75x4 (rms) amp would work fine. Especially with the 60w fronts you might not want want 100x4 anyway. It's not even worth trying to grade it as it is with the 6x9's unmounted. Plus the rms power of your head unit is only 20w per channel.
