What is Macbeth about?

Help understanding what this Macbeth project wants from me!?

  • I have read and understand Macbeth, that's not the issue. I seem to be a big dummy and can't figure out what this teacher wants me to do for this Macbeth project. Maybe I'm over thinking it, and it really is that simple... Here are the instructions given: "You are a producer for a movie. the script is Macbeth, this means the words/ideas is shakespeare but the rest of the ideas are your own! You need to come up with the following: Setting, Characters (cast Actors who will play them), Opening, Ending, and Theme song you will display all of these in a Powerpoint that you will share with the class. it should show the setting, actors, info on opening & ending, and something about your theme song. You will also need to have a well developed paragraph explaining your rationale for your choices. You will have a total of 5 paragraphs. Macbeth Setting: time? place? characters: macbeth, banquo, lady macbeth, king duncan, malcolm, macduff Opening: is there a war still? will there be witches or will you use someone/something else? how will macbeth be motivated to kill king duncan? Ending: will there be a second prophecy? (forest and death to macbeth?), will macduff kill macbeth? will malcolm be king? theme song: what song (modern or old) symbolizes macbeth to you?" SO, am I recreating the play in a way i think it should have gone? or am i supposed to just cast everything directly from what the book says? OR should I try to make it in a modern setting? I think i'm over thinking it. Any suggestions on how i should approach this project? I don't want you to do it, I can, I'm just confused. (i was absent and can't get a hold of the teacher for explanations)

  • Answer:

I think that this project, from what I am understanding, is asking you to re-imagine Macbeth the way you see it, or the way you envision it. For example if you ever seen Disney's Alice in Wonderland, the cartoon one, and if you've also seen Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland, which is a re-imagining of it, that would be the basic gist of it. That's what I think it is anyway, if you can get into contact with your teacher somehow that would be better.
