What is the difference between the iPod touch generations?

IPod touch -- difference between generations? - need a case?

  • My neice and nephew both have an ipod touch. I went on amazon to buy them a case for it so they dont break it, and i noticed there are different generations. will one case fit all generations? is the generations an internal feature or does it change the size of the iPod?

    Sadly, with each new generation of iTouch the iTouch changes size. So, if they have an iTouch with a camera, that means 4th G. Amazon has thousands of trendy (and inexpensive) cases! DO NOT get "rubberized hard case" cases, because those are junk. Get snap on hard cases, and ask you N&N if their ipods have cameras. If they dont have cameras, the they are probably 3rd G!

No with iPods each generation is set up differently so you have to find out what generation their iPods are and buy that generation case

With the i-pod touch and many other i-pods, the shape of the device changes as the generation goes on. Your best bet is to find out what generation it is :/ i hope this helped.

Only 2nd and 3rd gen of the touch are the same - all the rest (1st and 4th) are different from each other.

Well it really depends on what generation do you know the generations of the iPods? if you don't an iPod touch 2g and 3G are pretty much the same as far as size and hardware except the 3G has a Faster processer if they have a 4g iPod then the 2g and 3G cases won't fit because the 4g is a lot thinner if you want to know the different generations look at the back of the iPod if it's a 2g iPod it will say copyright 2008 on the back if it's a 3G it will have 2 lines and no copyright 2008 If it's a 4g it has a camera
