Yesterday I broke an energy saving light bulb (mercury poisoning?
-
Okay so yesterday I squeezed a energy saving light bulb in my hands while I was trying to replace it but it broke in my hand and shards fell on the floor and my bed. (light is above my bed) I may have accidentally breathed in some air after it broke, but then I got a dustpan and covered my mouth with my tshirt and scooped up the pieces in the dustpan. I also used my hands to pick up some pieces. Is that bad? Then I took out my bed blanket and shaked it outside incase there were pieces on it. Then I opened up my window and blinds fully and left my door open to air out the room. Then I had a long shower to try and decontaminate myself (like they do in the movies when someone gets radiactive) Then I watched the a movie in another room while I waited for my room to air out. Then I went back in and vacuumed my floor, incase there were more little pieces in there. But I'm not sure if I got it all. There may still be some here so I'm scared. Anyways then I replaced my pillow case and took off my bed sheet and got a new blanket and sleeped. Now it's the morning. Is it safe to be in my room? I'm scared I don't want to get mercury poisoning! Also: When my lightbuld broke yesterday, some piles of clothes were on my bed, and I'm worried that some glass or mercury dust is on there. Are they safe to wear now, or should I rewash them? It's a lot of clothes. Oh I forgot to add. But last night I started sneezing and blowing my nose and feeling a little bit sick. And I still am today. Is this just a coincidence, or did the mercury make me sick????? Am I dying or is it just in my head?? Help I'm scared! I'd appreciate the help. Serious answers only please. Thanks everyone!

I would rewash the clothes. If you took a cold shower your all good probably just a cold but if you took a warm shower get to the doctor fast you can die within 24 hours from mercury poisoning.

Instructions for proper clean up can be found at the EPA web site. It is illegal to throw that stuff in the trash.
