How Does Light Graffiti Work?

Light Photography Isn't Working?

  • I own a Cannon Power Shot SX120 (IS) and I've been following the directions on how to do light graffiti, (what I saw online) I tried with a lazer pointer and my flashlight and both didn't work at all. Yes, I'm doing it on a timer and with the ISO set properly. Do I need to use a different camera?

  • Answer:

It looks like the longest shutter speed is 15 seconds (probably you'll need to be in manual mode, which your camera has) 15s is plenty long enough for some light writing or simple pictures. I like to use sparklers, but want to use a laser pointer some day. Set your shutter speed to 15s, aperture at f/8 and ISO at 400 for starters and see what that gets you.

I guess you missed the part where you have to set your cameras shutter speed to bulb and hold the shutter open for as long as it takes to do your light graffiti. Unfortunately, your P&S camera does not have a bulb setting. This means that you have to use a dSLR to shoot light graffiti

Uhm... You don't need the timer. You only need to set the shutter speed as long as possible. Why not try Bulb? http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-do-light-painting.html
