I have a Sony Camcorder DCR-DVD653E and when I connected the camcorder to the computer, nothing happened, same thing when I put the CD in the computer. How can I upload to computer?

Answer:
I do hope your not using CDs, it should be using DVD and preferably a DVD-RW. Either way, when done shooting your clip, finalize your DVD, take it to a computer with DVD drive installed . Then take a video converter program, inside the folder titled VIDEO_TS ar the files your looking for. Then go to http://asimplelife.ca/dazzle.html and follow the directions there. That will move your files to laocal hard drive within your computer, where you do what you need to do with those files. Now if you had been using DVD-RW DVDs, you could, after getting your files transferred to your computer, reformat that disk and use it again. Any version of DVD, Like DVD-R or DVD_RAM, you cannot reformat at all.

if it is a DCR then you can get a firewire cable. but you will need a firewire port. if you don't have a fire wire port then i recommend you get this thing called gadget geek but that is only for windows. if you have a mac you will need to get the newest fire wire cable which you can just get off eBay here is the link for a fire wire cable if you have a mac and the other link is for the gadget geek and that is if you have a windows.

Open Windows explorer; Insert finalized DVD to your computer DVD player (your media player will play the clips - but you just want to upload - so just stop the player) - Open the Dvd Drive in Windows explorer and you'll find the Video_TS folder, where .ifo, .bup and .vob files are. Copy all the .vob files as these are the mpeg2 video files - if Windows media player won'y play these clips, download and install VLC or Media Player classic. - If you wish to edit the clips, for a vid editing app which supports .vob.

Make sure you've set the USB speed correctly in the camcorder menus. When the device is recognized, you should see a new removable storage device in Windows Explorer. You can then copy video files directly from there, or you can use Sony's included software to transfer them.

Take note of what Paladin has to say. Also it appears that your DVD653E does not have a firewire connection as someone suggests. I did a quick look around and came up with this thanks to B&H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/380858-REG/Sony_DCRDVD653E_DCR_DVD653E_PAL_DVD_Camcorder.html
