Do I need special speakers for a turn-table?

Do i need speakers for the turntable?

  • I want to buy a sony pslx300usb turntable. Can i listen to records without plugging it into speakers or my computer? is ti possible to listen just from the turntable itself? and if i decide to buy speakers, will the rca rt151 home theater system work with it?

  • Answer:

you can not plug speakers into a turntable due to 2 main reasons 1- there is No built in amp in turntables to power speakers 2- there is NO connecters on the turntable to connect speakers to it,, if your buying a turntable you really need a AV RECEIVER (pioneer, onkyo, denon, yamaha) and a proper speaker set up to get the best out of it,,

To AVDADDY: Many old guys who had the experience of using a turntable to play music from the vinyle records will find this turntable 'lousy'. The output lead wire is in the form of a USB connection(which means connecting it to any digital device will not be a problem at all). Young guys can play it too.

The signal from a turntable usually needs a pre-amp to even feed it to an amplifier, to drive speakers or headphones. Home theater systems are usually made to take a normal amplifier output; not likely that the turntable will feed the home theater system correctly.

You will need a pre-amp before you can plug it in to speakers. That's my experience, anyway.

Leave the turntables to us old guys.
