Why isn't my VGA cable working?

VGA to DVI cable not working?

  • So I have an LG Flatron EW224 monitor that has a DVI D and VGA inputs. I have had my PC and Xbox hooked up to it both using VGA. I eventually got tired of turning the monitor around to switch cables, so I got a VGA to DVI cable to use with my PC. When I plug the VGA to DVI cable into both ends, the monitor just goes into power saving mode and does not seem to recognize there is anything coming from it. When I use my VGA cable to hook my PC up into the VGA port, everything works fine again. What could I possibly do to fix this? Thank you!

  • Answer:

It does not work because the VGA to DVI cable is for the analog part of DVI-I, not to convert to DVI-D. You need to get a graphics card with DVI or HDMI out, a VGA to DVI-D/HDMI converter box, or use HDMI from the Xbox, and VGA from the computer. You can use an HDMI to DVI-D cable or adapter, because the signal is the same.
