How to get rid of house ants?

Have sugar ants gotten into your house and how do you get rid of them before they get in the house?

  • I ask this in seniors, because at our age we have all gone through experiences like this. Everyone says not to kill these little ants because they are doing a job. They are on the peonies outside, however, they came in the house. I had a box of caramel corn next o my recliner. I started eating it mindlessly while watching TV. I felt an ant crawling on me. Then I saw one on the box. Yeah, bet you can get the rest. I don't know how many I ate. :-) but my question is, how do you get rid of them. I have heard other people say they get in the house as well. I will no longer leave any food near my recliner.

    You probably need to go all around the outside of your house during the middle of the day and see where their paths are, and make a border of spray all around those areas. I use a boric-acid bait but it doesn't kill all of them. Just make sure anything they like is tightly sealed. I left the lid a little loose on a quart of honey and they got in there, and I have seen them in vending machines in the packs of cookies and candies, so they will eat into that type of wrapping, and are bad about getting into sweetened cereals. They don't like vinegar when it's wet, sometimes I spray down my counter tops with white vinegar (kills germs and cleans good too).

I use Ortho Home Defense. I spray the foundation where it meets the structure of the home on the outside and then go inside and spray the baseboards plus the threshold of the doors. One treatment seems to last 2 years but they only advertise one year. It's a little pricey but it kills ants, roaches, spiders and all those other creepy crawly crittners that you'd spend a fortune on an exterminator to get rid of. Buy it at Walmart.

Don't panic these ants aren't poisonous. Take good old white chalk and go around the foundation of your home. Also around your door openings and floorboards. This is cheaper and less harmful than chemicals. I had this problem with them when they went after our dogs food bowl. Chocolate covered ants are a delicacy. I did have them once. I know, I know, but I was a teen once too.

Several years ago, I accidentally found out that they hate Comet (Clorox powder). They won't cross it and move immediately. Any time I see them I sprinkle some around, especially around the outside of the house. It doesn't hurt anything else.

Because of the cats I have to use a non-toxic substance to kill ants.I sprinkle baby powder around the base boards and doors.I picked this tip up from our local health food store.Has worked everytime.

Not yet, but I have to put down those powder pesticides outside all around the house and more by the windows and patio doors..I also use ant spray, once I do all that I have no problems at all..they are a pest!!!!..=)

I use a mixture of sugar and borax. Put it in little dishes or I use the small plastic lids from margarine. Place in exterior doorways, window sills, patios, anywhere that provides a route into your house. I do this 2-3 times each year and have no problem with them in the house...knock on wood.

I buy those beige plastic ant traps. They work pretty good Replace often

Oh My that is terrible! I hope you didn't really eat any! I know you have to be very careful in the summer, or ants will come in! With my Grandsons, its an extra chore keeping the ants out! I haven't gotten any yet, but you never know what will come later this summer!
