How does the security of virtual wifi work?

Why can't i set up my DS games wifi settings?

  • I have a Nintendo DSi XL, the wifi setting on it are all ok and working, but when i access my game's wifi settings, its like nothing I type in will work. I am playing my Pokemon Pearl Version Game and it won't accept my settings at all on the game's menu screen.. I really badly want to hook up to the internet and trade online with my game, but i need to hook up my wifi settings on the game first. *My modem is a NETGEAR N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400. When I go into the games wifi settings, I go through the 3 step process and on the 3rd step i have to type in my WEP key. I type what i usually type as my password/security [My WPA2-PSK(AES)]. This stuff is driving me crazy always trying to hook it up and i just want to go on the global trade... Please help me.

It's because that version of pokemon is only compatible with the security type WEP, while you have a more advanced security, WPA2. As far as I know, there's nothing you can change about that, except buying a new router with WEP security, or switching off the security while playing. I have the same problem and my dad couldn't do anything about it, so. Sorry!

Other answers

The DS doesn't connect to WPA connections, they only work on WEP settings. :( Mine is the same way and what I usually do is switch them when I want on and then switch back when I'm done.
