Career advice - preschool teacher?

My teacher knows I like him, what should I do?

  • I would really like some honest advice for this. I fancy a student teacher who had work experience in my school, I understand that I could never do anything else with it, and if I did it could jeopardize his career. It honestly is just a crush, I would never act on it. Just to make that clear. Anyway, The teacher that I like was back from his teacher training course, and was talking to my deputy head at an interview, when I saw him I smiled, and couldn't help staring. The bad part is that later that day, my deputy head came over to me and said that he "Couldn't help but notice my reaction to Mr ****** being back" and how he know's that I have a crush on him. He said this to my face in a joking manner at first, but now he is reacting differently towards me.I tried to deny it but he saw through me straight away! As I have said I would never say anything or do anything to harm the teacher's career. But now I am worrying in case, the deputy head took my crush the wrong way. And It'll stop him from hiring the student teacher. I really respect the teacher, and would hate for the career opportunity to go away, because of me. So can someone please tell me how the deputy teacher would react to this, and also how to make things less awkward between the student teacher, the deputy head teacher and me. (I have spoken to the student teacher, and he said that he is flattered and that my deputy head is just teasing me) Thank you for reading this far, I would really appreciate an honest answer.

  • Answer:

Every teacher knows that sometimes a student will have a crush on him or her. They are taught how to handle that if the student becomes excessive in their attentions. You shouldn't have lied about it because that puts suspicion on the subject. I think you should go to your deputy head privately and be straight about it. You are handling it in a very mature way and perhaps the student teacher isn't doing as well with it as you are and the deputy head must make his choice based on what he sees in the young man. If he hasn't really learned to deal with that kind of situation then he might not be the best candidate for a job in your school regardless of you and your feelings.
