How does immigration positively affect Canada?

If immigration by Germans and Irish catholics had the same affect on Canada as it did on the US do you think?

• Canada would be as conservative as the USA is? I mean as it stands today these are the 2 largest ethnic groups in the US. In Canada they rank like fifth or something. Also, the Germans that emigrated to Canada came from Russia as opposed to straight from Germany which may have had an affect on it. Most of them being mennonites as well.

  It was for sure not the catholics which made America such conservative. That's rather the Protestants fault (check Puritanism). Also, the most conservative areas of the US are down in the South - but Irishmen rather settled in New England and Germans in the Midwest (but especially Germans although throughout the country). I think what really made the USA so conservative are things like slavery (many prejudices still remain today, blacks and whites are pretty unequal in society), the frontier experience and Protestant (!) religious fundamentalism. All those strange conservative persons are Protestants. Sarah Palin for example... EDIT: Might be, but Germans have a high percentage in about EVERY state (also like Washington or Pennsylvania) and I wouldn't consider those states conservative. And about (or even more than) half of Germans which came here were Protestants. Additionally, this would also mean, that other countries of significant German imigration would be comparable conservative, like Southern Brazil or Argentinia/Chile. And Germany is NO WAY as conservative as the USA (I mean, they have a gay foreign affairs minister).
