Should I quit my job as a Bouncer?
-
IDK why i'm asking for advice from complete strangers but here it goes: for last couple of weeks I've been bouncing at a after-hours club in texas from about 1-4 both friday and saturday $60 a night. I'm a black kid from the suburbs born by two nigerian parents, and work there part time and also a full-time student, I'm starting to hate this job... I'm new my friend got me the job so I feel bad if I quit after a week cause he stuck his neck out for me. I don't think the girls there like me i.e the chef, the barmaids, bartenders, I try to talk to them an I just get attitude. this is a VERY Hood spot, byob, allowed to smoke weed in the club as well as other drugs, I just don't feel conformable in this environment,( an not cause of the weed an drugs) but just the roughness I break up 3-4 fights a night and this club gets packed to capacity. an after work I feel like ****, I mean I'm 6'5 around 275 and I can hold my own, but starting to think the money might not be worth it. I don't no what to do, dudes are always trying to try me... so its puts me in a position where I've gotta **** them up kinda bad.. so any advice? and I can elaborate if needed

It appears from what you shared that you are on the right track by being a full time student striving for your degree which is a requirement to have a shot at a decent job and pay. However your chances, by taking the risk of working in a hostile, high drug using and excessive alcohol abuse by patrons, could go up in smoke meaning i.e. shot/stabbed by a patron etc. I recommend you thank your friend for the opportunity but simply state that after giving the job a shot, couple of weeks, you do not feel comfortable. Then pursue part time work, if you can not find work in your field of study, at a retail stores, based on your height/weight the YMCA as a basketball or other athletic activities or even security at a store (loss prevention)would be a safer environment if you meet age eligibility. Don't risk your future. Good Luck!

You do realsie that there are plenty of bars to work at -- assuming you work for an agency ( which is nearly alway the case in Australia -- not sure about the US) just ask them to move you to another area if you are uncomfortable. If you can get a job in an upperclass area or pub you will rarely have to break up fights ( however those pub expect you to be more diplomatic -and you might even hear crap like "you cant touch me , I'm a lawyer) Upperclass nightclubs have hotter chicks generally speaking.. ( although in some cases it might be very boring if you are in a pub full of mid aged businessmen)
