Is it bad to go to private school for football?

  • I'm 15, a freshman in high school. I didn't play this last season because I broke my arm about a year ago. So next year (sophomore year) I will be playing football. Most likely I'll be starting on JV and dressing out for Varsity (that's what my coach has said). My school's team is about average. We were 3rd our county last year out of 8 teams. We are a new school. 3 years old. If I wanted to play football and a better school is it that bad? Should I play for a year and then make my decision? If you have the the talent then it wont matter what type of school you go to... Word will get around about you and you will have recruiters visiting the games....Good luck...

Unless you have a non-football related reason for making the move, my best advice for you is to play football for the school you currently attend. Keep in mind, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your sophomore, junior, and especially senior, years of high school, NOT what high school you went to. If you perform very well in football during your final 3 years of high school, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program in the future.

I'm in nearly exactly the same situation as you. I played strong safety for 7 games before tearing my ACL ligament. You're a bigger guy than me I'm 6'0" and 162lbs. My bench is 160lbs and my squat is 270lbs. If I were you I'd play linebacker, tight end or you might be a good running back with your strength. And definitely not colleges always go for private schools first.
