How do you get a sponsorship?

I am in the army and i am pcs'ing to korea. How long does it take to get an answer about command sponsorship?

  • I was stationed at Camp Henry, Deagu, South Korea from Apr 2008 until Mar 2010. I got married there and really enjoyed bieng there. I could not get command sponsored so we paid. I then PCS'ed to my current duty station at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Where when I got here I was here for 3 months and deployed for a year and have been back since August 2011. I recently renlisted and choose the duty station of Choice option for South Korea. I was able to land South Korea, I will be assigned as the 27D20 (paralegal) for 65th MED BDE (Yongsan). I did all the command sponsorship papper work to get command sponsorship and submitted to my reassignments section to be turned into the reassignment section in Korea.They sent it to the reassignment section in korea on 2 May 2012. My wife is Korean (since she does not need a visa bieng a korean citizen and she has family in kore) so I plan on bringing her one way or the other but we would like to get command sponsored. How long does it take to get an answer on the packet now a days? I start clearing here on the 21st of the month and final out on 6 June 2012. Will I have an answer before I have to get my plane ticket? I don't want to buy her a plane ticket and then find out I don't need and can't get a refund or rimbursed for it.

You sure don't sound like a 27D. Why aren't you talking to Branch or even 8th Army Chief Legal NCO? You need to go talk to the Chief Legal NCO at your Division's SJA office.

you'll be in country before you find out. It should get approved. They are encouraging more to command sponsor.

I don't understand why you can't answer this yourself...being a paralegal. It takes as long as it takes. As you well know, being there before there are man factors in determining how long command sponsorship paperwork takes. After factoring in rank, MOS need, location of assignment, housing, and how long the waiting list is when paperwork is received, there is no way to accurately figure how long it will take. Also add in the fact that some people on that list may extend also changes things. Fortunately, there are websites so that you can follow along and see where you are on the list so you can check yourself.
