Answer:
If you've had ringing/roaring in your ears for years, then it sounds to me like you've permanently damaged the tiny hairs inside your ears. There are tiny, infinitesimal hairs inside your ears that vibrate when you hear a sound, or, that's what helps the process of making you hear it. If you are in the presence of really loud noise for too long a time (such as a music concert), those vibrating hairs can break, bend over, etc. If they break, I believe you become deaf; no vibration in the hairs = no hearing sound. But if they just bend over or keep vibrating, even after the sound has stopped, you get the ringing, which usually goes on for a day or two, several days tops. Since you've been hearing the ringing for years, it sounds like you've permanently damaged those little hairs. If that's the case, then I am truly sorry for you. However, don't take my word for it; I suggest you go to a doctor, or an ear doctor if possible.

Tinnitus is a result of loud noises, one of the most common reasons for tinnitus. Over time, loud noises can also cause loss of hearing. Medications are also problematic, since more than 200 medications can cause tinnitus. It is good to hear that often when you stop medication usage, tinnitus goes away. Ear or sinus infections could also lead to tinnitus, although this is often temporary and goes away after the infection is treated. Tumor in the brain or ears, as well as head and neck trauma are also common causes. Idiopathic tinnitus means we just do not know what the cause is....you may require tests to ascetain your situation...
