What are GCSEs and Alevels worth in the US?

Can i get into a medicine course with bad GCSEs but excellent alevels?

  • basically my GCSEs were crap. But now I have knuckled down and i am committed to school work, im predicted AAA* in Biology chemistry and geography in Alevels. Do I have a chance of going to a good university to study medicine..or even dentistry? thanks very much:)

    You could get into a lot of universities (not every one because you got a C in GCSE maths). You just need to look and see the entry requirements of each one. If you manage to get AAA* at A-level you could certainly get offered a place. But remember you do need to do a lot of other things like the entrance exams (for example UKCAT, BMAT, GAMSAT- look on uni website and it will tell you which one). And you need work experience, volunteer work and to be part of a team.

Why on earth would you think they were crap? I got BBBB(SCIENCE EQUIVILENT.) CC (English LANG AND LIT) C (Maths) D (Business studies) and i'm too ashamed to post the others haha I was told you need seven A/A* to do medicine whether that is true or not i don't know. I think they mainly look at your A level results and you're ucas points, get in a couple of hundred of volunteering (if you're in your first year of college/sixth form if not just as many as possible) with the area of medicine you plan to work with and make sure you get A*s in your A levels and you should be good to go, but look on UCAS and see what the different entry requirements are.
