  • I read in an article the spacing for a crop is 7ft x 4ft x 3ft. if it 7ft x 4t we can understand it as the distance between plants and rows. but how can we interpret three figures. it can not be 3 dimensional. please explain me. How many plants can be accommodated in an acre using this spacing.

  • Answer:

Here's a guess: Space your tomato plants on 3 ft to 4 ft centers, with 7 ft space between rows. This IS the correct spacing for a tomato garden, even though it may not be the answer you were looking for.

Based on this vegetable spacing guide (http://home.howstuffworks.com/vegetable-spacing-guide.htm), the third number might be root depth.. could whatever you are planting have a depth that deep? I have no idea what else a 3rd dimension could represent in this situation

The largest value is probably the tree height, which can be an important issue if the trees are to be planted under a shelter or used as a windbreak or the trees would affect other (shorter) crops in the field (i.e., shading effect).
