Why can't I open Hotmail on my macbook?

Setting up Outlook 2011 or Mail on MacBook OS X Lion?

  • Okay, so I use a MacBook Pro and I'm trying to set up an account for either the "Outlook 2011' or 'Mail' app on the Macbook. The problem is, I just cant' seem to be able to accomplish it after hours of searching for tutorials on the Internet. My email address is one which is not like the normal ones. In fact it was somehow 'modified' by my school. (Yes, it is a school email address). So, example, instead of '[email protected]', its something like 'kerrie.park96@student.<school name>.sg' So I went on the Outlook Web App and went into the options and looked for my SMTP and POP server addresses but both 'Mail' and 'Outlook 2011' couldn't connect. Also, I didn't know which one is the Incoming server and which is the outgoing server... :( The closest and best results I've gotten was being able to see the actual drafts I made earlier on 'Mail' but other than that, I couldn't send mail, receive mail... So, please help me if you can. It's not as if I would die without having an alive 'Outlook 2011' or 'Mail' account which updates me about incoming mails, but you'd know the feeling of having to login to the Web App every single day? It's troublesome, right? Haha thanks P.S. I have to login through 'www.live.com' but yet my email address does not consist any trace of 'live.com' in it.

  • Answer:

every mail server is different so it's best if you asked your school's IT department for the settings. ask if you should use POP3 or IMAP, what are the incoming/outgoing servers and their ports.
