Why does my scalp itch so badly?

I'm getting my hair dyed tomorrow and I'm embarrassed of the scabs on my scalp? Why does it itch so bad?

  • (Just saying, This is kinda gross. But I'm 100% serious, and i honestly don't know whats wrong with my head and I'm embarrassed.) I don't know whats wrong with my scalp but its getting out of hand. I have bad dandruff, but an extremely oily scalp at the same time. I've tried dandruff shampoo and all different types of hair and scalp repair products, ive tried washing my hair every day, every other day, only twice a week, but NOTHING seems to work. I've been checked for lice more times than I can count, and I've never found any traces of it. My scalp gets so itchy that I'll scratch it til it bleeds, and there are now bumps (They look like zits) that will randomly leak oil or even blood. I'll catch myself itching in my sleep or during the day. After i itch my scalp tingles and then itches again but worse. I'm getting my hair dyed tomorrow at a salon, and I'm so embarrassed of my scalp... What do you think is wrong with my scalp? I seriously need help, its getting totally out of control... Thanks..

You might have psoriasis. Make an appointment with a dermatologist, and that person will know what to do. I don't think you should get your hair dyed, though. I hit my head on a branch and had a scratch across the top of my head, and when I had my hair dyed it burned like crazy. Also, many stylists won't work on a person that has sores, and since you don't know what is going on you could just make it worse.

There is no way you can expose your scalp to hair dye. It will make it 1,000 times worse and you will itch and cry in pain. I don't think your hairdresser will dye it anyway. You need to go to the doctors, you sound like you have either eczema or psoriasis. You need to get special medication to help treat to condition but I would also take a very close look at your diet to see what could help alleviate these symptoms. You may even be allergic to your shampoo or something like that. Go and seek some professional advice. If your hairdresser refuses to dye your hair please do NOT attempt to do it at home. You can have and are at risk of a severe allergic reaction as a result.

I second the girl who mentioned psoriasis. I have it... It's not contagious or anything but it makes my scalp itch like crazy sometimes and I will scratch until it bleeds. You can try this shampoo called T-Gel. It has coal tar in it, so it smells horrible, but it might help. If it doesn't get better, you should definitely go to the dermatologist and get some help because itchy scalp sucks.

Yeah you are not getting your hair dyed tomorrow. Not with scabs and oozing pustules allover your scalp.

It might be because you're not washing your hair thoroughly. I recommend you use Head and shoulders shampoo, The refresh kind. If you don't know head and shoulders is a pyrithione zinc/dandruff shampoo. It feels really cool when you wash your hair with it. It is guaranteed to improve your hair and scalp health. Now make sure you are washing your hair right, not only applying shampoo on the top of your hair but to your scalp.(roots of hair) I like to use this shampoo only on the roots and apply any good smelling shampoo on top. I don't really like the smell of mint. I hope I helped !! ^---^

I think that your hair stylist will not want to dyed your hair if she see that because you aren't supposed to dye hair when the scalp is in a bad situation like that. but you should ask help to your hairdresser and ask her what she thinks and if she can't help you, go to see a doctor..
