What natural medication?

What are some decent alternatives to depression medication?

  • I'm a 19 year old male, and I have severe depression; because of this, it's worth noting that my family has a long history of mental illnesses. I used to see a doctor, but he exhausted his usefulness to me, and I decided that his services weren't worth the money; I haven't been back to one since. I am vehemently against taking depression medication, as it conflicts with my ideology. Having said that, I don't think that I can continue down the path that I'm heading for very much longer without completely losing myself to depression. I have no joy or happiness, only sorrow and regret. I'm not in school, and currently I don't have the capacity to be. I have no friends, no control over my life, and no hope for my future. I do feel like medication would be of great help to me, but I refuse to take it, as it conflicts with everything that I believe in. If I took medication for a mental problem, I feel like it would only cause me to harbor more hatred for myself than I already do. On that note, I was wondering if there are any natural solutions that have the same effect on the brain that depression medication has. I've heard that even just being outside in the sunshine can help some, but I don't know if there's any truth to that. I'm at a loss here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Jay

Hi, There are definitely natural and holistic solutions. Check the resources... I suggest you to take herbs and adopt yoga, meditation and destressing techniques along with some real socialization.

depression medication is horrible you get adicted to it. try praying to god, if you are religious.

Try not to dwell or isolate yourself. Getting a job as a cab driver can be a great way to be around people but not have to be around them for usually longer than ten minutes. It can be like therapy. You will get lots of Sun, and you'll like having "regulars" (familiar faces). Also, I'm a practicing Catholic. Prayer, prayer, and more prayer, eh? Get into working out. Blah, blah, blah.

vitamin D is good for you and research shows that it does improve the mood. I also don't believe in taking medications because I feel like anything can be solved and medication will only make me weaker...but if it really does affect you then you might need to take something and also talk to a psychologist. Here are somethings you can do before you get to that point: Volunteer Find a hobby Meet new people to bond with and create relationships Think positive Meditate Get about 20 minutes of unprotected sun walk for about ten minutes outside eat healthy and get around 8-10 hours of sleep..too much sleep is a sign of depression.
