Do I need motorcycle insurance?

Catch 22: Insurance company wants motorcycle training course but need insurance to ride the bike...?

  • How do I take the motorcycle training course if I need the insurance first to plate the biike and ride it? I live in Ontario, Canada.

    Insurance is on the vehicle. Use someone else's motorcycle or use one provided by the company offering the training.

The insurance company offers a DISCOUNT for the MSF course. And not an enormous one either. They don't require it though. You don't need insurance for the MSF course. Those bikes are insured by the entity putting the course on and baked into the price you pay to attend. You're in a parking lot, not on public streets, so there is no license or insurance requirements. It's pretty simple stuff. No catch 22 here.

A lot of places that train in motorcycles have bikes there you can use at least in the US, but guessing should be the same in Canada.

The bike class should supply the bike, as you noted but mis diagnosed you can't get your own bike there. You're worried about the plates, what about absolute beginners who don't know where to sit, or where the throttle is? There is an astounding number of questions here on riding classes and then going out to buy a $10,000 bike.
