Why do people say cats are cleaner then dogs?

• In my experiences dogs for me have always been cleaner then the cats I have lived with. The cats I live with now that belong to my room mate are constantly puking. They toss out kitty litter from the litter box and shed like crazy. They also have peed all over the furnitures. The dogs I have had and lived with only mess was what they chewed up but once you get them a chew toy they stop chewing everything els. They also peed and pooped on training pads without making a mess and never puked. The dogs are messy when they eat but only around their food bowl. I just don't understand peoples argument on cats being cleaner when every experience I have had wth cats has been the complete oppossite.

  I think it's mainly because cats bury their waste and spend around 30% of their day grooming themselves. If your room mate's cats are constantly puking that could indicate a problem with their diet or health. If it's hairballs they're puking up, then they need grooming more often to remove excess hair. Put the litter box inside the upturned lid of a large cardboard box. That will catch any litter that gets kicked outside the litter box. Peeing on the furniture could be due to ill health, not being neutered or a territorial dispute between the cats. I think your roomate should take their cats to the vet for a check up just to make sure there aren't any underlying health problems.
